...Labour Market

Unemployed for a couple of weeks, looking through ads with the hopes to find a job. Almost 90% of vacancies are Call Center/Business Process Outsourcing-related positions.

My interest to apply for the said industry is stimulated by my objectives to practice my skills and exposure to U.K. market and of course to meet my financial objectives.

Long ago I had a great distaste to Call Center jobs, I perceived them a fashion, a fad. Hippies, Kikays and Kikos are scattered in front of the buildings where Call Centers operates. The have their own culture, they have their beers in the morning and coffee in midnights. A lot of them got tuburculosis, anemia, etc. Lifestyles like smoking, coffees and beers could not be blame for that. It is the Companies' Work Life Balance program. and Life includes complete rest. Complete rest could be achieved if employees could experience sleeps in rooms like in normal evening hours. Housing or accommodation program is necessary to be provided..with interior design that invites sleep even during daytime and soundproof. Anyway, I need to apply..

I have sent 4 bio-data and application letters. 2 companies notified me for interview and the two...? I do not have any idea, maybe they have just trashed my CV in soft copies.

In company 1, I did not make it. The recruitment staff who interviewed me was not satisfied with my answer to her question why I want to join them despite that I was a former Chairman & CEO of an advertising agency.

The company number 2, I was asked to demonstrate my selling skills. I was disorganised and demotivated by the situation. On the spot, I have to sell used underwear and convinced my fellow applicant to buy such product. I just say sorry for I could not make it. I told my "buyer" that in marketing and salesmanship we must believe in your product and I do not wear brief or any underwear.

Riding the Light Rail Transit going to the University I worked for previous months, the voice of the Call Center recruitment staff resounded to my ears. I did not make it and in addition My pronunciation and accent are not appropriate to their taste.

I recalled one incident in my last year applications, I was also junked because of my accent. They need a fluent american accent.

Trying to figure things out if I should adapt to what they need just to be hired, I realised that I should not and abandoned my stimulated desire to be part of Call Center/BPO company. I am discriminated and others, I am sure also discriminated.

Most Call Centers and BPO are benefitting and serving U.S. principal clients. And I am sure that these Call Centers and BPO do not know the Affirmative Action program of U.S.

Managing cultural diversity and Affirmative Action ensure the rights of the weaker and less priviledged labour force-by ethnicity, tribal, gender, etc. to be promoted and protected from discrimination.

U.S. market is inconsistent to what they are implementing because American companies discriminate ethnic labour force and that is caused by discriminating American Consumers.

American Consumers do not trust non-Americans in handling their transactions.

An obvious hyphocrisy.

My mental activity about my jobhunting experience stopped as I approached the Human Resources Department window to submit my Letter of Inquiry and Appeal to the Vice President and Legal Director regarding my illegal dismissal from work.
